Backing the wrong Buff

A little update on YOUR Colorado Buffaloes fantasy football team…

Those who follow this blog will know some of the inside stories on our college fantasy football competition. Sadly, all is not well on the 3-6-1 Buffaloes. The recent departure of Darrell Scott shines light on a lost season. In selecting our fantasy teams, we were required to have at least one player from the football team we represent. After going back and forth between Darrell Scott, the prize recruit, or Rodney Stewart (averaging 4.7 ypc in 08 and the only ranked Buff RB during pre-season), I settled on Scott who I felt had a far higher fantasy ceiling. Today I dropped him from my roster (as he is no longer a Golden Buffalo, I don’t have to stick by him), and added Rodney Stewart – who has quietly put together a decent college fantasy football season. His ypc is down to 3.9, but he has punched it in to the end-zone 9 times (only 2 last year). If only I had made this choice at the beginning of the season, maybe I’d be on the level of Warren’s 5-5 Trojans, but not all gambles can pay off.

While that’s not the ONLY decision plaguing my fantasy team (Kaepernick and Pryor are finally producing), it is the one that is most indicative of the sad situation at CU (though the Andre Simmons pick corroborates that story). The Buffs were supposed to contend, supposed to do some damage in the Big-12 north, and at the very least supposed to have a potent offense and a dangerous defense (heck – Hawkins said we would win 10 games!). But now, with reality staring us in the face, we must move on and let Darrell Scott do the same.

Let’s hope that this week’s ultra-tough matchup against the league leading Kentucky Wildcats is the upset of the DraftTek Fantasy College Football season! And let’s hope that the majestic Golden Buffalo will rumble back into relevance, for all the right reasons.

Take care, and happy footballin!
