Will be adding some additional details to the new Power Rankings for Week Ten, but for now, let me get the list up and I will round it out a bit more Tuesday evening. Suffice it to say that the top three teams will stay exactly as they were a week ago, but after the Monday Night game, the next few switch around a bit.
1.(1) New Orleans (8-0) – Another big come-from-behind win, with an exclamation on the end. Should have knocked the Panthers out cold from the start but came out completely off their game. They can’t afford to do that down the stretch or in the playoffs.
2.(2) Indianapolis (8-0) – The Colts still struggled running the ball and Manning distributed the ball through the air just enough to edge out the Texans. Next week is a huge question mark as they prepare to host the Patriots. Super defensive effort by Indy throughout the game.
3.(3) Minnesota (7-1) – BYE
6.(6) Cincinnati (6-2) – Proving the first win against Baltimore was no fluke, Cedric Benson and the Bengals slam the Ravens. Pretty significant loss on offense with Chris Henry out of action now.
5.(5) Pittsburgh (6-2) - Dominated the second half on defense while Big Ben overcame a couple of early mistakes to keep the Steelers in the game. Super night for Rashard Mendenhall as well.
6.(4) Denver (6-2) - Self-destruction on both sides of the ball in the second half cost the Broncos in this one. The defense allowed over 150 yards rushing after halftime, while Kyle Orton lobbed 3 INT’s. Don’t look behind you now Denver – there’s something gaining on you.
7.(9) New England (6-2) – The wildcat still gave the Pats some trouble, but NE did a decent job of getting most of it de-clawed, preserving a close win against the division rival Dolphins. Big road game at Indy this weekend.
8.(16) Dallas (6-2) – Finally get it done in Philly. Hang on though folks – it ain’t December yet.
9.(8) Atlanta (5-3) – Took care of business against the Redskins, although it was closer than expected.
10.(12) Philadelphia (5-3) – Completely inexcusable loss at home against a team they must beat in order to get into the playoffs – especially considering the offensive firepower they possess.
11.(11) San Diego (5-3) – Good win, but Phillip River’s immature running around the field just reeks of being a little spoiled brat to me. Yeah, we get it Phillip. They took Eli over you. Big deal. The Chargers took you over Brees and you don’t see him running all over the place like he’s won something important yet. Your squad still hasn’t beaten any of the really tough teams thus far in ‘09 – till this game. Act like a pro and not a high schooler.
12.(12) Arizona (5-3) – The Super Bowl Cardinals showed up in Chicago in the 1st half, then coasted the rest of the game against the rather bland (and impotent) Chicago offense. Now they get to have fun for a week talking about the situation with Q.
13.(11) New York Giants (5-4) – This team has now lost 4 in a row and have a bevy of problems, but don’t panic entirely just yet – the Eagles and Cowboys could still implode.
14.(13) Houston (5-4) – It was their time. 5-3 and a chance to gain a game on Indy in the division race. Knowing the Colts have yet to come to Houston for their second divisional game, all the Texans had to do was win and close the gap. They had the lead – momentarily – with all the momentum, yet couldn’t get it done.
15.(12) Baltimore (4-4) – The birdies laid an egg.
16.(16) N.Y. Jets (4-4) – BYE
17.(15) Green Bay (4-4) – Well there’s adding insult to injury. Lose to Favre on a Monday Night “Deathmatch” at Lambeau Field, then turn around and allow the lowly creamsicle-clad Tampa Bay Bucs to gain their first win of the season against you while they pile-drive Aaron Rodgers into the ground on 6 sacks. (Try getting rid of the ball sooner Aaron…I’m just sayin’) I’m not so sure Brett Favre wasn’t right in getting away from the Packers.
18.(17) San Francisco (3-5) – Huge stumble by this organization. Should have been able to stop this Titan team and looked to start making a run towards the playoffs. Now they’ll have to find a spark next week vs Chicago.
19.(19) Chicago (4-4) – Hmmmm…no offense and a defense that can’t stop a strictly passing team. Look out Bears – here comes Samurai Mike and the Niners next.
20.(20) Miami (3-5) – The wildcat was purring but late in the 4th, with the game on the line, they go away from it completely. Didn’t understand that at all.
21.(21) Carolina (3-5) – Great effort and had their chances but couldn’t get over the hump.
22.(22) Jacksonville (4-4) – Darn near lost this one at the end but recovered the second straight KC onside kick to close it out. Mike Sims-Walker with another big game.
23.(23) Seattle (3-5) – Looked bleak early on when the Lions went up big early in the 1st quarter, and was still anybody’s game until Stafford’s final ( and 5th ! ) pick sealed the deal.
24.(25) Washington (2-6) – With Portis and Cooley out, I didn’t expect the Redskins to make it as close as they did.
25.(25) Buffalo (3-5) – BYE
26.(26) Oakland (2-6) – BYE
27.(32) Tennessee (2-6) – Stun the fading 49ers on the road behind Chris Johnson.
28.(28) Kansas City (1-7) – Just allowed too many pass completions and first downs, but did make it close – this ballclub is just a couple of big talents away from post-season.
29.(29) St. Louis ( 1-7) – BYE
30.(30) Detroit (1-7) – Matt Stafford made the obvious rookie mistakes but the Lions were still there at the end with a chance to pull out another win.
31.(32) Tampa Bay (1-7) – Huge win and a great effort by Josh Freeman in his first NFL start, bring the Bucs their first win of the year in the Creamsicle uni’s and I have to move them up for the win….at least for a week. Sorry Browns fans.
32.(31) Cleveland (1-7) – BYE
