We’re not even a quarter of the way through the current NFL season and speculation and grassy knoll conspiracies are in great abundance.  Fans of every team play Monday Morning Quarterback, second-guess every coaching decision and bemoan the fate of their favorite team.

    • Never let it be said that Long Ball, celebrated “DOF” of Drafttek, would allow this phenomenon to pass without a blog entry; therefore, let’s start a series of ranking head coaches on the hot seat on a division by division basis.  Click the link below to start this journey with me . . .

Alphabetically speaking (AFC first, NFC second) and starting where the sun rises, let’s look at the AFC East.  In classic Letterman fashion (no comments on my sexual activities or extortion attempts), we will gradually raise the temperature and build up to the hottest seat:

      4)    Bill Belichick, New England Patriots – Actually, this seat is ice-cold – quick, name an assistant coach on Belichick’s current staff.  Yep, I

      Bill Belichick

      Bill Belichick

couldn’t either – could name a few former assistants that are now head coaches.

      3)    Rex Ryan, New York Jets – The biggest golden boy yet, Rex has to be singing that Sinatra tune (“If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere”) as he is undefeated with a rookie QB – think he’s paid for a meal yet in the Big Apple?

      2)          Tony Sparano, Miami Dolphins – Not that last year’s favorite coach is in any immediate danger – after all, everyone loves to watch single-wing football – but we know what the Big Tuna thinks of celebrity QB’s – so how long will he put up with celebrity ownership?

      1)    Dick Jauron, Buffalo Bills – If Ralph Wilson signing T.O. was not the kiss of death, the heart-breaking loss to New England the first Monday Night should have been.  The fans of the Bills deserve better – it gets harder and harder to circle those wagons and Jauron will be the fall guy.  The only question is will he make it through the entire season.

Agree or disagree?  Actually, this division was pretty easy – next we’ll go to the home of the Super Bowl Champions and attempt to rank the coaches in the AFC North as to the toastiness of their buns.
